Listen to these sneak previews of the (unfinished) upcoming CD, 'Eat Like A Rainbow! (still missing guitar, harmony vocals, mixing & mastering, etc...

With a powerful sound system, and a beautiful, colorful backdrop, Jay presents an exciting, participatory concert of songs that encourage kids to explore the worlds of healthy foods, exercise, fresh air, and sustainable living.

On different days, and in different locations, you’ll find either Jay or his musical colleague Mike Morris performing ‘Eat Like A Rainbow’ as a solo show. When budget and scheduling allow however, Jay and Mike perform the show together as ‘The Grooveniles’.

The concert consists of 10 to 12 interactive songs. Kids interact through singing along, guessing along (filling in the blanks), and even making silly sounds and hand movements (at appropriate times, of course!)

Audio CDs are sent before the show, so that the kids can learn the songs – this makes a huge difference in participation, and in retention. We also send Teacher’s guides and resource sheets, as well as posters, photos, and press releases to help with publicity.

This show can be scheduled in conjunction with the Parent/Teacher/Community workshop, 'Transforming School Food'.

The songs and their choruses:

Eat Like A Rainbow (funky ballad)
I like to eat like a rainbow; builds my body and it makes my brain grow
Helps my heart beat and my blood flow; I like to eat like a rainbow

Junk Food Man (minor swing)
The junk food man will try to do you in; he’ll play you kid, just like a violin. And just like drugs or cigarettes - he makes more money the more kids he gets

Everybody Likes Fruits & Vegetables (calypso)
Everybody likes fruits and vegetables; fruits and vegetables fresh and true,
Everybody likes fruits and vegetables; fruits and vegetables are good for you

My Food Is Made From Sunshine (country)
The sun shines down upon my fruits and veggies, grains and beans. Fills my life with sunshine through my berries seeds and greens. The colors in my food seem brighter every time I dine, when I remember that my food is made from sunshine

Healthy Food is My New Attitude (rap)
I’m singing this song ‘cause I want to be strong; I want healthy energy all day long
I’m happy – yay - when I work and play; I want healthy, natural food all day

The Plants Dance (funk)
Takin’ a chance, doin’ a little dance, about healthy foods that come from plants

Try New Foods (folk)
So many things I just don’t know; I try new foods wherever I go
Livin’ my life in a different way so I try new foods every day

Sun & Wind, Soil & Rain (ballad)
The circle of life is a beautiful one; around the Earth as we circle the sun
Circles around and then comes around again

Strong Bones (blues)
Give me strong bones, give me healthy bones, not stick and stones,
but healthy flexible, skeleton bones

Chopsticks (to the tune of ‘Chopsticks’)
Noodles and pineapples, mushrooms and rice and tofu are some foods
that I think are nice, but there’s food in my hair and without silverware,
I feel like my food has been eaten up twice.

Michael Recycles (rap)
I like to recycle with Michael, I like to recycle with Michael every day,
because he chooses to reuse what he uses, he refuses to just throw it away
